The Healthy Start Coalition of Orange County recognizes there many countries are experiencing turmoil with refugees arriving in the country with many needs. Healthy Start is here to help all pregnant women and families with young children up to age 3 in Florida.

What is Connect?

Connect is a service that links pregnant women, women experiencing pregnancy loss, and families with children under the age of three (3) to the most appropriate services and resources that target the family's individualized needs.

Here in Orange County, there are several programs available to support all pregnant women and infants, including:​

  • Nurse-Family Partnership
  • Bellies, Babies & Beyond
  • Healthy Families
  • Early Head Start
  • Early Steps

​Virtual and telephonic services range from childbirth & parenting education and support, child development assessments & support, family planning, infant safety instruction & support, counseling & more!

Pregnant? No Insurance? Now What?

If you have a household income of less than or equal to 185% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), you may be eligible for Medicaid coverage. There are different options for applying for pregnancy Medicaid. You can apply for Presumptive Eligibility for Pregnant Women (PEPW) or Regular Medicaid for Pregnant Women. Benefits for applying for PEPW include faster access to prenatal care and prenatal care coverage for up to 45 days pending approval or denial of Regular Medicaid for Pregnant Women.

Apply for Presumptive Eligibility for Pregnant Women

Apply for PEPW and receive prenatal care at local health department sites:

You can expect to receive an eligibility determination by mail. If you applied online, you're required to create a MyACCESS account, which you can use to check the status of your application.

Apply for Regular Medicaid for Pregnant Women

Apply online for Regular Medicaid for Pregnant Women by:

  1. Going to www.myflorida.com/accessflorida/. If you need help applying online, including getting access to the website, click on the page where it says "Find Us" to find organizations that can help you.
  2. Click on "Apply for Benefits" and follow the instructions, making sure to check the box that you are pregnant.
